Our society
The Society was formed in 1949 and is comprised of people from all sections of the community and from many different countries who have an interest in ships and maritime activities.
Our aims
To encourage the preservation of private and public collections of shipping photographs, models, drawings, literature and other material of shipping interest, especially that associated with New Zealand.
Our activities
The Society has published or assisted with the publication of a number of books. We also publish a quarterly journal "New Zealand Marine News" which is posted to all members.
At present there are active Branches at Hawkes Bay, Taranaki and Tauranga where regular meetings are held.
Our website
This has been online since 2002. We are continually adding to the site as material becomes available. Other sectins of the website are
- Shipping News contains topical news about maritime events in the New Zealand area or to ships associated with New Zealand
- NZ Maritime History contains short histories of shipping companies and ships which trade or have traded to New Zealand, the port that they call at and the personalities.
- Publications contains a list of maritime interest books. Some of these books are published by the Society and some can be supplied by the Society using the order form in the Publications section.
- Magazine includes extracts from our regular publication 'N Z Maritime News".
All parts of the website are searchable using the search button at the bottom of the page.
