Compendium of Australasian Merchant Ships 1831-2008
This is the first single reference source listing the technical details and histories of a large number of Australasian merchant ships since the first steamer arrived in Australia in 1831. An A4 landscape solidly bound soft cover book of 300 pages with 7,500 entries, this landmark work contains far more information on the subject than any previous publication. It is a must have for anyone or any library or maritime museum.
Over his lifetime up to his death in 2006, Bob Tomkins, a former Nautical Association of Australia President built up this large body of infomation. By including vessels down to 14 metres in length the books provides information on large numbers of ships not previously recorded.
Since Bob's death the text has been extensively reviewed and updated to the beginning of 2008.
This publication marks the 40th anniversaryof the formation of the NAA and as a tribute to Bob Tompkins.
